What We Do For You and Your Communities
HCC serves a diverse population over several hundred miles, throughout Lyon, Storey, and Mineral Counties in northern Nevada. Our coalition is not a prevention program or traditional human service organization but rather a collaboration of local residents and groups who have a genuine voice in determining the best strategies to address local problems. We implement strategies through the coordination of our community partners, members and volunteers, and provide ways for our communities to become healthier and happier by working together on common goals. We do this through:
• Helping community groups obtain necessary funding through collaborative grants and fundraising
• Collecting and distributing data on community issues and creating plans for addressing them
• Sharing resources with community agencies and helping them enhance their services
• Creating awareness of community issues, resources, agencies, services, and events
• Mobilizing citizens to address a local issue
• Our coalition membership works with federal, state and local agencies and community members to form strategy teams to address current needs, such as:
• Youth prevention, including drugs, violence, pregnancy, obesity, and suicide
• Wellness promotion
• Community health, including education and prevention strategies
• Poverty
We also maintain Task Forces in Virginia City, Dayton, Silver Springs, Fernley, and Yerington, to serve as local experts in addressing each community’s needs, assets, and risk factors. Task Force members include community youth, senior citizens, teachers, parents, leaders, service group representatives, faith leaders, and youth prevention advocates. These Task Forces also enable communities to work together on joint projects and plan for a healthier region.

The Logic Tree
The diagram below provides a visual representation of how HCC programs teams and task forces provide the roots for growing a healthy community. These strong roots provide nourishment for our collation principals (trunk of tree). The trunk of the tree provides sturdy support for the tree’s branches and leaves to flourish, representing the growth of our healthy community.
